SUMMARY:Project RED (Riverine Early Detectors) Volunteer Training
DESCRIPTION:The health of our favorite rivers and streams depends on all of us! Wisconsin’s rivers are vulnerable to invasion by a number of aquatic invasive species (AIS)\, from Eurasian watermilfoil to Japanese knotweed. The key to successfully protecting our waters is detecting invasives early when it may still be possible to isolate or eradicate them\, as populations detected early require less money and effort to manage. Volunteers are invaluable for early detection and rapid response. If left unchecked\, AIS have the potential to reduce the diversity of native organisms\, disrupt the food web\, and impact recreational activities. \n\n\n\nHow We Monitor: Project Riverine Early Detectors (RED) has four steps: \n\n\n\n\nVisit a section of river or stream\, keeping your eyes peeled for invasive species.\n\n\n\nCollect specimens or photograph suspicious plants and animals.\n\n\n\nVerify the specimens.\n\n\n\nShare your findings.\n\n\n\n\nAt this Project RED training\, professionals from the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association will help you on your learning journey to help you feel confident in your ability to look out for invasive species as you recreate near or in water throughout the summer! \n\n\n\nPlease note: Interested participants must email Jasmine (jasmine@uppersugar.org) or Grace (grace@uppersugar.org) to sign up for this volunteer training opportunity. \n\n\n\nTraining will take place at Twin Valley Beach Shelter. \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT — Opening Night: The Chairs
DESCRIPTION:A Comedy About the End of It All. The seas are stormy\, the house is crumbling\, and the guests are about to arrive. It’s the event of a lifetime\, as an elderly couple at the edge of the world waits in a remote house for an Orator to lead a grand\, scientific lecture. As the illustrious guests begin to “arrive\,” the couple scrambles to seat everyone\, while holding increasingly surreal conversations. \n\n\n\nAn absurdist tragicomedy that manifests as vaudevillian slapstick—quirky\, clownish\, and existential—this play by Eugène Ionesco (translated by Martin Crimp) is described by Director Vanessa Stalling as both a love letter to theatre and a challenge to it. Featuring the prime pairing of Colleen Madden and James Ridge\, the world of the play is exaggerated\, physical\, and deeply human\, influenced by the circus\, cabaret\, and silent film. \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Opening Night: The Matchmaker
DESCRIPTION:Prepare to be dazzled by Thornton Wilder’s sparkling farce about love and class. Every soul in this story is looking for someone to love\, but their collective cupid-compass is pointing in all the wrong directions. At the heart of this story—which was the inspiration for the beloved musical Hello\, Dolly!—is the resourceful Dolly Levi\, a professional meddler with a knack for arranging other people’s lives (and she may just uncover a few surprises for herself while she’s at it). As she plots one love connection\, another takes flight when a pair of small-town dreamers flee to NYC to manifest their own destinies. \n\n\n\nWhen Dolly is called upon to find a wife for infamous curmudgeon Horace Vandergelder\, hilarity ensues. Fueled by chaos and mistaken identity\, The Matchmaker celebrates the delightful messiness of human connection and the notion that everyone deserves a little adventure. Directed and choreographed by Brian Cowing\, the play is a vibrant dance of showstopping scenes and technicolor characters that invites audiences to see the wonder in the world and choose delight. \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Solstice Tarot Readings with Kayle of Other Dust
DESCRIPTION:Come by the shop to celebrate the longest day of the year and have your cards read by Kayle Karbowski of Other Dust! Kayle will be cozied up in the tearoom offering first-come\, first-served tarot readings. Order a drink and see what the cards have in store for you! \n\n\n\nAbout the Reader: Kayle Karbowski (she/they) is an artist\, facilitator\, and the founder of Other Dust\, a psychospiritual consultancy and technoapothecary focused on developing intuition and reclaiming interdependence. Inspired by the collective and universal nature of intuition\, Kayle utilizes the power of form\, symbol\, and color in conjunction with traditional meanings of tarot to support querents in unlocking the answers to their life questions. Their tarot practice is firmly rooted in the belief that our bodies hold an inherent well of knowledge\, and the cards serve as archetypal prompts that gently (but honestly) guide us back to ourselves. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue

SUMMARY:Prairie Restoration Tour - Grell Property (Lone Rock)
DESCRIPTION:Please join The Prairie Enthusiasts – Southwest Chapter for a tour of a privately owned restoration site. This property near Lone Rock\, WI is owned by Marty and Mary Grell\, who will be hosting the tour. This prairie and black oak barren survived by being a pasture and being too steep for crop farming. It is in a recovery stage from at least 100 years of grazing and is now fighting a constant battle with woodland encroachment. Brush and tree cover removal\, followed by periodic burns\, have been done since 1994. \n\n\n\nAttendees will see diverse plant life\, such as Scutellaria parvula (small skullcap)\, Amorphia canescens (leadplant)\, Talinum rugospermum (fame flower)\, and other moderate to dry prairie plants. There is also a 3-acre burr oak savanna remnant atop the hill (Little Roundtop) on the east end of the property. \n\n\n\n\nTrip Leader: Marty Grell\n\n\n\nDifficulty: Moderate. Most of the prairie is on a hillside\, with varied grades.\n\n\n\n\nParking & Directions: Due to very limited parking at the shed\, attendees are asked to park off the side of Cty Hwy B near the entrance gate and take a short walk past one of this year’s burned areas. For reference\, the site is 1.1 miles West of the Little Brown Church (located at the junction of Cty B and Hwy 130)\, or approximately 3.1 miles East from Hwy 14 at Sextonville (take Cty B East). \n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenue\n\n\n\nView address on event page\, as the tour is on private property.
