  • The Cats of America: Ancient History and Modern Conservation

    William R. Clark, Professor Emeritus of Wildlife Ecology at Iowa State University, will present an informative talk on the evolution and conservation of the cat family. The presentation covers his research on bobcats in the Midwest and North America, their Lynx cousins, the status of pumas, and endangered ocelots, as well as the history of ancestral sabertooths and cheetahs that once roamed the continent. Attendees will learn about the conservation challenges presented by habitat loss, hunting conflicts, and climate change. The event will feature interesting science, great pictures, and time for questions.

If you have problems getting enough sleep, falling asleep, or staying asleep, this interactive six-week program teaches sleep hygiene best practices, Stimulus Control Therapy, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and more. The class is taught by Danielle Sander, Health & Well-being Educator at UW-Extension Sauk County. Because this is an interactive session, active participation by those who attend is highly appreciated. Pre-registration is requested and can be completed online or over the phone.

    Reading to a dog is a wonderful way to build reading skills and confidence. Readers ages 5 to 12 can sign up for a 15-minute slot to sit down and read aloud with a registered therapy dog, such as Dealer or Luna. Children can bring a favorite book or try a new one from the library's collection.
