Only in Wisconsin: Local cattle, truck involved in accident on Highway 14

In the early morning of May 14, an accident involving a local farm’s cattle and a large work truck took place on Highway 14.

The accident, which occurred around 4:30 a.m. Friday, brought a large work truck to a halt when it struck a cow that had wandered onto the road from a farm on Highway K.

According to the sheriff ’s office call log, the deceased cow belongs to Kendall Wilkinson, who could not be reached for comment.

The driver involved was Branden Trager, who is reported to have no injuries following the crash. Trager declined to comment on the incident.

“This is a type of crash that can happen at times when we are traveling in a rural area,” said Iowa County Sheriff Steve Michek. “USH 14 over the years has really not had much livestock housed or pastured in the vicinity of the highway. There areas of Iowa County that have more of a livestock ‘population’ and just like you have with a higher population of wild animals the more crashes can be possible, livestock will take advantage of any opportunity to try a different pasture.”
