Classic Movie: Rebecca
Romance becomes psychodrama in the elegantly crafted Rebecca, Alfred Hitchcock’s first foray into Hollywood filmmaking. A dreamlike adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel, the film stars the enchanting Joan Fontaine as a young woman who believes she has found her heart’s desire when she marries the dashing aristocratic widower Maxim de Winter (played with cunning vulnerability by Laurence Olivier). But upon moving to Manderley—her groom’s baroque ancestral mansion—she soon learns that his deceased wife haunts not only the estate but the temperamental, brooding Maxim as well. The start of Hitchcock’s legendary collaboration with producer David O. Selznick, this elegiac gothic vision, captured in stunning black and white by George Barnes, took home the Academy Awards for best picture and best cinematography.

Each session gathers with the intention to connect with others and heal your nervous system through the creative process. Bring your own project or use the provided materials to deepen your practice of active meditation.

The Arena Community Team (ACT) is a volunteer-driven organization committed to fostering transparency, engagement, and collaboration within the village and town. ACT strives to keep residents and businesses informed and actively involved in local governance, ensuring every voice is heard and valued. All village and town residents, as well as business owners, are highly encouraged to attend these meetings to stay involved and help strengthen the community.

Join Melissa Ulev of Take Root Holistic Health Coaching for a one-hour Yoga Flow class at Discover Driftless. This class is a chance to reconnect with yourself, quiet the noise, and give your mind and body exactly what it needs. Participants will move with their breath through smooth, connected sequences designed to foster calm, strength, and balance. The sessions include both gentle holds and optional challenges so you can move at your own pace, and you will be guided with clear instructions on breathing, body alignment, and mindful movement.
