Shawn Eichorst, a Lone Rock native and River Valley High School Class of 1986 alumnus, was named the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s director of athletics on July 1, 2026. After extensive experience in college sports administration, he emphasized the importance of relationships and his commitment to education at his introduction on July 7.
Senior Kalen Scott, throws a personal record (PR) of 43 feet, 2.5 inches at WIAA Division 2 Sectionals in Whitewater June 17. Scott placed 12th.
2021 River Valley Spring All-Southwest Conference Student-Athletes
The River Valley Trap Team won the Division 2A State Title June 13 in Rome, Wisconsin. River Valley’s score of 485 edged out West Salem’s team by one point to take the title. Clear Lake’s team finished third with 482.
Saturday, May 29th was the 11th annual SW Golf Cup between rival SWAL and SWC conferences. The event is held each year at Dodgepoint Golf Course. The top 24 golfers from each conference compete head to head in various formats of match play.
This week was a fun week of soccer. Our JV team played extremely well against Platteville. We moved the ball well and Claire and Isabelle scored great goals.
RV Trap Shooting finished 1st in the top conference for the Spring 2021 season. With a total of 59 shooters, we had 5 finish in the Top 100 for the State: Joseph Day, Jaydon Rose, Sam Cady, Gaige Dilley and Joshua Crook.

River Valley Varsity girls soccer sees two wins out of four games

The RV golf team has finished its regular season and will advance to WIAA Sectionals June 8.
Our games on Tuesday and Friday were postponed due to field conditions. The highlight on Thursday was the goal scored by Kylie. Svea Youngquist was fouled just outside of the 18 yard box to earn a free kick. Kylie’s shot went over the wall and beat the keeper near post.
Last week we went 4-1 losing a close 0-1 ball game against Prairie du Chien on Tuesday night. We beat Sauk on Thursday 12-1, Lancaster on Friday 18-2; we hit the ball hard and were leading 14-0 after two innings, Mineral Point on Saturday 5-1 and Cuba City on Saturday 10-3.
Shane Liegel (River Valley H.S), a sophomore at Loras College and a member of the men’s wrestling team, was honored as a member of the American Rivers Conference 2020-21 Winter Academic Team.
The 51st Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Gymnastics State Championships will take place Saturday, Feb. 27. Junior Lorisa Shatrawka of River Valley/Barneveld will compete at Elite Performance Gymnastics in La Crosse, Wis., under Division 2, which will be hosted by Onalaska High School. Both divisions will be conducted in two sessions. The first is scheduled to begin at noon with the second session to follow at 5 p.m.
The River Valley-Barneveld gymnastics team took home a win at the SWC Conference championship Feb. 11 in Dodgeville.
Following four games on the road, the RV Boys Basketball team took on Regionals Tuesday against Westby, and went home with a 56-52 win.
Next, the Blackhawks go back on the road to take on the Richland Center Hornets Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in another WIAA Regional match-up.
After a ten day mandatory recess due to COVID-19 protocols the River Valley girls basketball team resumed play this past week. Despite the lack of practice and having numerous games canceled the Blackhawks returned to normal action by having four games in one week.

The mid-January schedule challenged the River Valley Girls basketball team as they played six games in ten days against top competition from the area. Despite playing competitive basketball for portions of the games, on both ends of the floor, the Blackhawks were unable to secure a victory.
